Description Du Poste
The junior environmental consultant will join Assystem’s Global Siting and Environmental Team. The first posting will be in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for one year. During this first year, s/he will be positioned in Riyadh and make regular visits to project sites within the Kingdom and Gulf region. After the successful completion of this period, the individual will be repositioned to the United Kingdom.
Our junior environmental consultants are required to assist in providing effective environmental or sustainability services to our clients, either in one specialist discipline or as a generalist, and take an active role in our internal project management organization to meet the agreed aims and objectives in terms of time, cost and quality. It is likely that junior consultants will work closely alongside more senior consultants and will receive close support or mentoring at least in the initial stages of a project.
Tasks and responsibilities will vary depending on the client and the nature and stage of the project being worked on. It may be required to work on multiple projects and with multiple clients simultaneously.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Environmental project management: conducting site inspections; preparing and reviewing management plans; assisting with audits; collecting and analysing performance data; assisting with base line surveys, local environmental applications; advising project and site teams on environmental issues
- Sustainability strategy: assisting with sustainability appraisals, including the use of tools like Ceequal; developing and monitoring action plans for project objectives; contributing to sustainable design reviews
- Environmental management system (EMS) development: assisting projects to achieve an effective, certified EMS (to e.g., ISO14001); conducting gap analyses; writing procedures; conducting internal audits and liaising with external auditors
- Environmental and social impact assessments (ESIA): working for mega international projects and development companies such as NEOM, Red Sea, KaCare and taking an active role in drafting ESIA chapters and statements to support funding and/or construction applications
- Ecology services: assisting ecologists with habitat and protected species field surveys; report writing, and analysing data
- Environmental Permitting: Assisting in obtaining environmental consents including Environment Agency permits and Section 61 Control of Pollution Act.
- Attending Company and team briefings.
- Reporting regularly on the progress of projects to your manager, including client feedback and business opportunities.
- Completing Performance and Development Reviews (PDRs) and maintaining an up-to-date C.V.
- Keeping abreast of and conversant with your responsibilities in the Assystem Business System, including compliance with health and safety policies and practices.
- Supporting the preparation of tender submissions and other proposals as required
Profil
Skills and experience:
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject
- Keen interest in one or more of construction, infrastructure, property or energy sectors
- Hardworking, well organised and confident individual, with an enthusiasm for learning new skills and willingness to take on a variety of tasks
- Self-motivated with the ability to adapt to our clients’ environments, including working individually and as part of a team
- Possess a good level of interpersonal skill, both verbal and written
- Able to demonstrate commitment to Schofield Lothian company values: honesty, respect, integrity & trust, collaboration, and accountability
- Computer literate and a strong ability in using the Microsoft Office suite of products
- Ability to work on own initiative and with the minimum of supervision
